The autumn concert given by Basingstoke Male Voice Choir on Sunday was shared with Four Lanes Male Choir from Cornwall which was touring Hampshire this weekend.

Proceeds from ticket sales for the event held at the United Reformed Church, in London Street, Basingstoke, mean £1,000 is to be presented to the Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Around 100 people attended the concert which featured an array of songs including Unchained Melody, You'll Never Walk Alone and Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah among the more contemporary sounds, as well as more classic choir tunes.

The Basingstoke Male Voice Choir is looking for new members so that concerts like this can be staged to raise funds for deserving causes.

The Hall of Cornwall was the venue for the Four Lanes triumphal show On the evening of the 29th May, their performance gave a warming glow, They joined special guest Paul Potts on stage, to the delight of all Wondrous sounds came forth from them to permeate the Hall.

The choir's MD Tim Hosken and their accompanist, Ruth Wetherall Both played their part so very well, they entertained us all. While compère Rebecca Robertson entertained with chat and so much more, Adding anecdotes, stories and jokes, her personality came to the fore!

The choir's 'Top of the Bill', a man supreme, Paul Potts sung and entertained, Paul may be short in stature, but his voice and presence was unrestrained, He entertained with arias, songs from the shows and other favourites too, A worthy winner of Britain's got Talent, Paul's quality came shining through!

Now Paul was not alone on stage, for most ably on the keyboard, Was accompanist Chris Taylor and this man's musicality we can all applaud!

Four Lanes sang well, it has to be said the sound of a male voice choir's unique, Perfected by practice back at Four Lanes hall, training every week!

The show's finale, 'The Impossible Dream' when choir and Paul joined forces It really raised the roof, the audience applauded and it really just endorses, How wonderful is the human voice and when harmony takes centre stage It is the very best of melodic sounds, with the listener will always engage!

So thanks to all of those involved in putting on this, the greatest show, We your audience want you all to be aware, we want you all to know, You have done this great county, Cornwall, very, very proud And when we go home and talk of this we'll sing your praises loud!
