Four lanes male choir hit all the right notes on a recent trip to Taunton Deane Services on the M5.

Cornwall based Four Lanes Male Voice Choir were on their way back after singing in Lancashire when they stopped at the service station.

The choir had hoped to find a cathedral to sing at unaccompanied but were unable so they seized the day and started singing at the next best place - the service station.

Choir secretary, Ashley Hosking, said: "We had hoped to find a cathedral - but we had no luck so we decided why not?

"At the time we pulled up at the station we were one of eight choir filled coaches.

"When we started singing some members joined in but when we sang one of the songs there were almost 200 of us all singing and standing - it was a great moment."

The choir which has been running for 72 years has 54 members aged 18 and upwards and regularly performs at concerts and events.

Cornwall came alive with a world of music earlier this month as 2,000 singers of all ages and nationalities brought their own songs and cultures to entertain around 45,000 people in the 2017 International Male Choral Festival.

The world’s largest male choral event welcomed 60 choirs for 50 concerts, competitions and celebrations in 40 venues across the county from Bude to Land’s End, Porthleven to Saltash and everywhere in between. Singers from nine to 90 years old performed in churches and gardens, theatres, castles and major tourist attractions - with organisers estimating that the influx of choirs, their entourages and festival visitors have brought more than £1million into the local economy.

Cornish winners came from bottom to top of the county with Mousehole Male Voice Choir taking the title for Overall Best Cornish Choir while Tintagel MVC were the Best Cornish Choir for 40 Voices and Under.

The choir has made a busy start to November and December with the recording of an excellent new CD on 28 / 29 November at St Euny Church.

On Saturday 12th November Four Lanes Male Choir is delighted to support Camborne Music Festival by competing in the Male Voice Choir Class. This will be followed on Sunday 13th by a Remembrance Day Concert at Lizard Methodist Chapel beginning at 7.45.

As the choir was formed in 1944 for a concert to welcome troops back from D - Day operations this is always an important day in its calendar of events.

December 4th heralds the start of our Christmas programme with the annual Carol Concert at Camborne Wesley at 7.45 pm.

This is a combined occasion with Camborne Ladies Choir under the leadership of Musical Director David Bennett with Accompanist Val Pryor.

Special guests are Treleigh School Choir and saxophonist quartet ‘Saxy Maids’.

It brings in the festive seasons with the lively singing of traditional and Cornish carols led by the combined choirs.

Sadly there will be no Carol Concert at Redruth Wesley Methodist Church this year so December 4th will be the only opportunity to hear Thomas Merritt’s carols sung and celebrated by the Four Lanes Male Choir and Camborne Ladies Choir this Christmas.

This hectic week sees the choir taking part in “The Big Sing” at Truro Cathedral and on Sunday 11th December Four Lanes Male Choir is in concert at the Mormon Church Helston with Gweek Silver Band.

On Christmas Day there is the traditional carol singing in Four Lanes Square at 11.30am.

Four Lanes Male Choir rehearses every Monday at 7.30pm in Four Lanes Methodist Church and new members can be assured of a warm welcome from Musical Director Tim Hosken and Accompanist Ruth Wetherall.

Get your New Year Resolution in early. Come and join us!

The second concert of a busy weekend was at Treleigh Anglican Church in Redruth for their 150th anniversary.

Another top performance from the choir with the quartet and duet singing during the night.

Thanks to the ladies again for our refreshments afterwards.

Four Lanes Male Choir enjoyed a trip to St Austell to sing at Carclaze chapel harvest festival.

A large and very appreciative audience brought the best out of the choir with a programme included a duet by Terry Parrell and Jim Venner. The quartet also sang having had a busy evening entering Indian Queens Music Festival earlier in the day.

Thanks to the ladies for a great supper after the concert.
